CMIE Consumer Pyramids Household Survey (CPHS)

The Consumer Pyramids Household Survey (CPHS), conducted by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), is the world’s largest high-frequency household panel survey, continuously measuring household well-being across India. Since January 2014, it has longitudinally tracked approximately 240,000 households (as of Dec 1 2025), surveyed three times a year. These households were selected through a stratified multi-stage random sampling design, and is designed to be representative at both the national and state levels, though in practice some regions remain uncovered and biases such as urban-leaning and attrition exist.

As of October 2025, the 36th wave (begun in September 2025) is underway. The dataset provides detailed information on household expenses, assets, savings, and borrowing behavior, at both the household and individual levels.

Then, click “Login” in the upper right corner of the website, and enter the username and password sent by CMIE to your registered email address.  Make sure that you are connected to Yale's network (wi-fi or VPN) when you log into the CMIE website to access the data.

CMIE Prowess

The Prowess database, maintained by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), is the largest repository of firm-level financial data in India that can be used to assess corporate performance. It covers over 100,000 companies, with records dating back to 1989, and has been updated three times a year since December 2013. These companies cover over 70 per cent of all corporate tax collections of the Indian government and over 90 per cent of the business of the Indian industrial sector. The dataset includes variables on company identity and background, ownership and governance, annual and interim financial statements, stock trading data (BSE and NSE), business segments, products, and mergers and acquisitions. With over a hundred structured tabulations, Prowess supports time series and ratio analyses, peer and industry benchmark comparisons, and other forms of corporate financial analysis. The database can be queried extensively using the portal’s interactive interface.

GSMA Global 3G Maps

The GSMA Coverage 3G Maps dataset provides high-resolution information on the rollout of 3G mobile networks globally. The dataset spans 2010–2024, with annual updates where available, and covers over 200 countries and territories at a spatial resolution of approximately 250m × 250m. Data is compiled by combining coverage information from mobile network operators with estimates generated from the crowdsourced OpenCellID cell tower database, and allows for the creation of comprehensive country-level maps that distinguish between strong and variable signal availability. These maps can be used to track 3G network reach over time, infrastructure expansion, digital inclusion, and study the socioeconomic impacts of mobile connectivity in combination with other micro- datasets.

International Household Survey Network (IHSN)

The International Household Survey Network (IHSN) is a catalog of household survey datasets from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). It provides access to surveys collected by national statistical offices and international organizations spanning several decades across Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, East Asia and the Pacific, South Asia, Europe and Central Asia, and the Middle East and North Africa. Common research topics include household consumption and expenditure, income and poverty, labor force participation, education, health, demographics, migration, agriculture, and gender equality. Rather than hosting all datasets directly, IHSN serves as a discovery portal linking users to external repositories such as IPUMS, the UK Data Service, the World Bank Microdata Library, and national statistical office data portals, each of which may have its own access requirements.

Access Instructions: Data is stored through external repositories, which may require registering using an @yale.edu email address.

CEIC Database

The CEIC Database is a database of sector, financial, and macroeconomic data for 200+ countries and territories.
