Kuznets Lecture

Chris Udry, Northwestern University

This annual event honors Simon Kuznets, the famous Belarusian-American economist who helped establish the Yale Economic Growth Center in 1961.

Christopher Udry, the Robert E. and Emily King Professor of Economics at Northwestern University and former director of the Yale Economic Growth Center, returned to Yale to deliver the 33rd Annual Simon Kuznets Memorial Lecture, "Structural change and declining agricultural productivity: Evidence from sub-Saharan Africa."

As with every Kuznets lecture since 2020, the talk was followed by a mini-conference showcasing cutting-edge research by early-career researchers on topics covered in the lecture. The 2024 mini-conference took place Friday, April 5.
