HGIS de las Indias - Encyclopedia

This collaborative dictionary (DokuWiki) is the main documentation tool for the HGIS de las Indias project.

It contains pages about:

• the database and its components — primarily the Gazetteer of Places and administrative entities that structured territorial organization during the Bourbon period, as well as information about the data tables and the meaning of their values.

• the workflow connecting the tables in which data are compiled and the resulting outputs (data and archive publication).

• the “Atlas” services (WebGIS) and metadata of the geoinformatics files used there, such as spatial reconstructions of database entities or additional map layers, whether independently created (e.g., “postal routes”) or related to database entities (e.g., “cities with universities”).

• the bibliographic records of the sources used to establish the database entries.
